He’s Coming/He’s Here

advent: a coming into being or use

.
.
.

The Church began using the word “advent” to describe the coming/arrival of Christ.  And what a great word.  It holds this mysterious duality – one that we experience with Christ daily – of the “already and not yet.”

.

The season of Advent is about joining with the ancient Church in hopeful expectation of The King.  They were totally aware that a savior was coming, but painfully unaware of how, where, and when.  Does that sound familiar?  The season of Advent is also about waiting for that same King to return.

.

We are waiting. Anticipating. Preparing.  And in those exact ways, we can identify with our ancient brothers and sisters in ways we hadn’t before thought possible.

.

We know Jesus Christ as a baby born.
But they don’t.
God knows when He’s coming back.
But we don’t.
